The Gallatin History Museum, a capsule of Gallatin Valley’s storied past, is opening its doors on Dec. 6 for free museum day, waiving admission and offering extended hours leading up to downtown Bozeman’s Christmas Stroll event.
Located at 317 W Main Street, the museum is located in the old Gallatin County jail, and has been collecting pieces of the area’s past since the Gallatin Historical Society’s founding in 1977. Today, the museum has a collection of over 20,000 historic photos, and exhibits such as the Big Horn Gun, a life size Pioneer cabin, exhibits on women, agriculture and music.
Next Saturday’s event will include a massive model train in the museum’s main room. The museum also has a gift and book shop in case visitors need to do some Christmas shopping for the history lover in their lives. The museum is open regularly from Wednesday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with an admission fee starting at $10 with discount for seniors, military and children. Gallatin History Museum is a nonprofit and relies strictly on memberships, donations and memorials to operate.
