In preparation for another busy summer, Glacier National Park announced changes to vehicle access during peak season, according to a Feb. 18 news release. The park will pilot a ticketed shuttle system to Logan Pass, limiting private vehicle parking to three hours. The new system is aimed at balancing short spectator visits to Logan Pass against longer alpine hikes through shuttle access.
Three-hour parking limits take effect July 1. Visitors planning extended hikes, including the Highline Trail to Granite Park Chalet or the Loop, must obtain a shuttle ticket. Overnight parking will only be allowed for permitted backcountry users and registered guests of Granite Park Chalet. Express shuttles to Logan Pass will operate from both sides of Going-to-the-Sun Road beginning July 1.
Shuttle tickets cost $1 per person (ages 2 and up) and will be available up to 60 days in advance through Recreation.gov starting May 2, and again nightly for next-day entry beginning June 30. Tickets are required to board and must be secured in advance.
Vehicle reservations will not be required in the Many Glacier, Two Medicine or North Fork areas. However, areas may temporarily close to incoming traffic when full.
Snow removal on Going-to-the-Sun Road begins in April, with Logan Pass typically opening between mid-June and early July, depending on conditions. Park officials note that popular trails, including the Highline Trail, may remain closed due to lingering snow hazards.
