Glacier records busiest summer ever

KALISPELL, Mont. (AP) – Glacier National Park is on track to set a new annual visitation record before the year is up after welcoming more than 1,985,000 visitors to the park this summer.

The Daily Inter Lake reports  the National Park Service released figures Thursday that show Glacier set an August visitation record this year with nearly 737,000 visitors. That came after record-setting months for attendance in May, June and July.

Glacier’s year-to-date visitation is 18 percent ahead of the same time last year. There have been more than 2 million visitors to the park in 2016.

Park officials are working to address the impacts of Glacier’s growing popularity, including congestion along Going-to-the-Sun Road.

The park is working on an environmental impact statement for a plan to develop a corridor along the road.
