A Colorado-based hotel and social club will renovate the River Rock Lodge into guest rooms, a restaurant and bar, fitness center and coworking space. Gravity Haus acquired the River Rock Lodge from Lone Mountain Land Company on Dec. 20, 2024, adding Big Sky Town Center to its eight locations across the U.S. Mountain West.

Gravity Haus Big Sky is expected to open in the summer of 2025, including membership amenities and public taco restaurant, Terrain Taco, and cafe, Unravel Coffee.

“Gravity Haus Big Sky will become a ‘center of gravity’ for locals and a regional hub for members and guests,” a Jan. 29 Gravity Haus press release stated. Jim Deters, CEO of Gravity Haus, Inc., explained that members and guests consider Big Sky as a top destination.

“We opened Gravity Haus Aspen in December, Jackson Hole last January and today we announce the Big Sky offering. I feel like we are completing the ‘skier’s triple crown,’” Deters stated in the release. Deters raised his kids in Breckenridge, Colorado and told EBS that he learned a lot while living in the mountain town.

“I knew that community really intimately and I knew the needs for … coworking and a lifestyle platform and a functional gym,” Deters said in a phone call. He said that learning from locals can make a visit more enriching, and that he wanted to create spaces that would “add value to the folks that live there day in and day out.”

Big Sky locals can pay standard monthly rates of $200 a month for individuals and $400 for families, or $140 a month for people under the age of 27, to join the Gravity Haus social club and access amenities and activities.

Benefits of a membership include access to a gym, sauna, hot tub, cold plunge, and “world-class” gear. Members can also use a coworking space equipped with desks, meeting and conference rooms, and can participate in skill-building workshops and networking events. Member events will allow individuals to meet others in “adventure, community development and personal growth” events. Lastly, members can access hotel and excursion deals and restaurant discounts.

Deters said that Gravity Haus is working to incorporate local perspectives and services in planning programming. “We have some local investors in with us that have a lot of ideas and we also like to have local buy-in to have the locals be part of the project,” Deters said.

Gravity Haus contributed to the Big Sky Parent Teacher Organization’s 45th Annual Pie Auction, according to Deters, who noted that an “anchor to every single project” is supporting families in the community.

“My hope is that the locals … are gonna love it as much as we do,” Deters said.

In the release, Krista Traxler, EVP of marketing for LMLC, gave background on Gravity Haus’ arrival to Big Sky Town Center. LMLC acquired the River Rock Lodge, which operated as a hotel, in 2019 and had since used the space as employee and contractor housing, while working on other housing options elsewhere in Big Sky.

“We are excited about the vibrancy this addition will bring to the west side of Town Center,” Traxler stated. “Town Center has become a gathering place in the community, and with this sale, Gravity Haus will be able to reinvigorate this building to bring a new lodging option and amenity spaces to the heart of Big Sky.”   ‍

The new location will be the first installment of Gravity Haus in Montana.
