Each June, Gallatin Valley Land Trust asks local runners, bikers and hikers to log their miles for their annual Summer Trails Challenge, with each mile logged equating to $1 raised for the land trust’s trail expansion projects.
In the fundraiser’s 10th year, the nonprofit is aiming to hit their largest goal yet: 100,000 miles for $100,000 raised. Participants can log their miles now through June 30.
The Summer Trails Challenge is made possible by generous donors, according to a June 3 press release from GVLT, with support from 53 local business partners including lead sponsors Bozeman Health, Ekam Yoga, Evergoods, Oboz Footwear and Toyota of Bozeman.
To begin the fundraiser, GVLT invites the community to their National Trails Day volunteer trail work event on June 7 at 8:30 a.m. on Peets Hill/Burke Park in Bozeman. Participants can log their miles walked during the event, and afterwards there will be a Summer Trails Challenge barbecue lunch at their office, 212 S Wallace Ave.
