Snow and colder weather arrived in southwestern Montana over the weekend but this did not correlate into increased harvest. All game check stations in Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks Region 3 reported another fairly slow weekend.

Overall, about five percent of the 1,635 hunters who passed through the region’s six game-check stations this past weekend had harvested a deer or an elk. In all, 36 elk, 31 mule deer and nine white-tailed deer were taken.

Hunters out of Livingston had the most success again with a better than 12 percent harvest rate. Eleven elk, 13 mule deer and five white-tailed deer came through the check station.

FWP talked with about 475 hunters at the Silver City check station near Helena, the most in the region. Those hunters harvested eight elk, nine mule deer, and two white-tailed deer.
