Sometimes, progress comes in ways that can’t be overlooked—and the recent work by the Montana Department of Transportation on Montana Highway 64 (Lone Mountain Trail) is one of those moments.

For years, this road has carried the full weight of Big Sky’s growth. Heavy traffic, endless loads and constant wear had left it battered and broken. The repairs were not just overdue—they were urgent. And thanks to MDT and their partners, this critical stretch of highway has been given new life.

What stands out is not only the quality of the finished product, but the way the work was done. Crews worked after rush hours, starting at 6 p.m. and pulling all-night shifts to minimize disruption to our community. It was one of the most impressive and efficient executions of roadwork I have ever witnessed.

On behalf of the Big Sky community, I want to extend a heartfelt thank you to Geno Liva and the MDT team. Your work is not only high quality and well executed, but it will also help protect and save lives by making this highly traveled road safer for everyone who calls Big Sky home—and for those who visit.

Highway 64 is more than pavement; it’s the artery that connects us to each other and to the mountains we love. Today, it’s safer, stronger and ready for the future because of your dedication. From all of us in Big Sky: thank you.
