Lone Mountain Land Company has announced a new hotel for Big Sky’s Town Center, the “independent boutique” Hotel Free West. The 81-room hotel will feature “modern mountain design with a polished rustic charm,” according to a May 30 press release from LMLC.

The project aims “to capture the essence of Montana’s spirit and [enhance] Big Sky’s mountain town hospitality.” The release emphasized the hotel as exciting progress for Big Sky’s hospitality scene bringing year-round energy, experience and economic drive to Town Center. Construction is currently underway with a projected opening date of summer 2027.

LMLC believes the hotel will be a catalyst for continued vibrancy in Town Center, according to LMLC President Matt Kidd.

“Hotel Free West is the culmination of three years of visioning, planning and passion,” Kidd stated in the release. “It’s more than just rooms and amenities—it’s a catalyst for the future of Big Sky, a welcoming hang-out for locals, and a destination for visitors to experience the magic of this place.”

In addition to 81 guest rooms, the hotel will feature a signature restaurant, bar and lounge, a “relaxed café,” retail shops including local artistry and culture, a fitness room, and an outdoor deck with a hot tub, cold plunge and saunas.

Beside the hotel, Plaza Avenue will be constructed as a new street to connect Aspen Leaf Drive and Town Center Avenue.

Hotel Free West will be operated by Columbia Hospitality, a Seattle-based hospitality solutions provider and management company with locations across North America, including Sage Lodge in Montana’s Paradise Valley.

“We are beyond excited to bring the vision of Hotel Free West to life—an independent boutique hotel that reflects the natural beauty and adventure of Big Sky,” stated Matt Hagerman, president of hotels and resorts at Columbia Hospitality. “With a legacy of operating unique hospitality projects, Columbia is honored to bring our expertise to Big Sky by partnering with LMLC and providing exceptional guest experiences.”
