A fast-moving brush fire prompted evacuations west of Rexburg, Idaho, after igniting near the Sportsmans Club Gun Range off Highway 33 on the afternoon of July 6. The blaze, named the Maze Fire, grew rapidly and Madison Fire Department crews requested mutual aid, according to a press release from the department.

An evacuation order has been issued for residents west of 6000 West between Highway 33 and 4000 North, with a shelter opened at the Henry’s Fork Stake Center. By the evening of July 6, unified command with the Bureau of Land Management had roughly 80 firefighters, 20 wildland engines, air tankers and bulldozers battling the fire, which by then had burned an estimated 1,100 acres.
