McAllister Fire grows to 3,500 acres near Ennis Lake and Norris

Editor’s note: Explore Big Sky continues to monitor fire starts in the region and will update stories as current information becomes available.

The McAllister Fire started Aug. 16, and after a night of extreme fire behavior, the blaze has grown to an estimated 3,500 acres. The Montana Department of Natural Resources shared an evacuation warning for all residents between Bradley Creek and Shining Mountains West, as well as U.S. Highway 287.

As of this morning, Aug. 18, the fire is 30% contained, according to InciWeb.

There are multiple fires in the region that Explore Big Sky is covering; in the Tobacco Roots, crews are managing the Bivens Fire northeast of Alder and the Cloudrest Fire near Sheridan and the Horn Fire southwest of U.S. Highway 287 and Montana Highway 87 junction is 50% contained.
