One of the ways that the state celebrates its anniversary is by honoring a Montana history teacher of the year. This year, Hali Richmond, who teaches fourth grade history at Sunburst Schools—north of Shelby near the Canadian border— earned the title at the 34th annual Montana Statehood Centennial Bell Award Ceremony at the State Capitol in Helena.

At the end of the event, the teacher and her students ring the Centennial Bell, which has sat on the second floor of the capitol building in front of the Senate since 1989.Watch the video here.
