According to Cannabis Industry Data, a site that streamlines statistics about the cannabis industry, the Montana Economic Affairs Interim Committee proposed a freeze on issuing cannabis business licenses. The proposal by Montana lawmakers would halt issuance of licenses until 2027, according to CID.

The act would still allow existing businesses to operate and apply to renew their license when it expires. Montana House Bill 701 directs funds from marijuana taxes to the Department of Revenue’s administrative costs first, then the state’s Healing and Ending Addiction through Recovery and Treatment Fund account. The rest goes toward outdoor and recreation projects and agencies—Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks collects 20% of tax revenue—and Veteran Affairs and law enforcement.
