At 4 p.m., the Montana State University American Indian Council will lead a Prayer Walk to honor Indigenous children taken from homes and communities and sent to residential boarding schools in the 19th and 20th century. Orange Shirt Day, also known as the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, honors and remembers the traumatic history of federal Indian boarding schools.

“We are hosting A’aniih Tribal Historic Preservation Officers Emma Filesteel and Micheal Blackwolf as representatives of The Children and Repatriation Delegation as they recently returned three relatives home to Fort Belknap from Carlisle Indian School,” stated an MSU AIC Facebook post describing the event.
