Beginning this month, a new Montana law, HB 719, requires voters to include their birth year along with their signature when returning a mail or absentee ballot.
In the Nov. 4 municipal election, voters will see a box on the ballot to write their four-digit birth year. If left blank, the ballot will be rejected unless corrected by 5 p.m. the next day, according to a press release by Gallatin County.
The Gallatin County Elections office will send a notice and reach out using the contact info on file if necessary. Voters can check their ballot status online.
