The Momentum Short by Moving Comfort is my new go-to. With a flattering fit and available in multiple colors, the Momentum Short looks just as good as it feels. Made of a special DriLayer fabric, the soft, lightweight wicking material is breezy and unrestricted, and won’t cause chafing on longer runs. The brief liner and extra wide, 2½-inch waistband help keep everything secure without pinching or riding up, so you don’t have to make adjustments mid-stride. $46
Extend the day with GoMotion’s Synergy Hydration Lightvest. This pack was designed with the after-hours runner in mind with a detachable 100 Lumen LED light that fastens across the sternum strap, so you don’t have to head home when night falls. The light features a three-level beam intensity, adjustable beam angle, spot-to-flood beam control, as well as optional rear flashing lights.
As summer winds down and the days get shorter, this is the perfect set up for fall training. The Synergy is made of flexible hex-mesh padding and rests on your upper back for optimum comfort. It also holds a one-liter bladder, which is crucial for longer runs, and features reflective strips and trim, an integrated cell phone pocket and a bungee storage strap so you can stash granola bars, sunglasses, or whatever else you need to get to the finish line. $79.95
For alpine runners seeking a durable, classic style trail running shoe, search no further. Thanks to the Dynafit Pantera, I no longer have to worry about spraining or rolling my weak ankles again. This shoe comes in both women’s and men’s specific fits and offers stability, comfort and protection on the most rugged terrain.
With a Vibram Mapping Compound Sole, Claw Grip, and Ballistic Bumper, the Pantera easily adapts to varying terrain types – from mud to scree fields, and even to asphalt on the commute to the mountains. The ballistic bumper is great for technical descents, reducing impact on the toes during frontal collisions with rocks or other debris. The form-fitted upper combined with the sensitive fit system hug the mid-foot for maximum security while still leaving room for the toes to breathe. $139.95 – Maria Wyllie

We all are familiar with using a limited palette, but do you use one? Do you know how to use a limited palette to create different color combinations? Are you tired of carrying around 15-20 different tubes when you paint plein air? Have you ever wanted to create a certain “mood” in a painting but failed? Do you create a lot of mud? Do you struggle to achieve color harmony? All these problems are addressed in John’s workbook in clear and concise language!
Based on the bestselling “Limited Palatte, Unlimited Color” workbook written by John Pototschnik, the workshop is run by Maggie Shane and Annie McCoy, accomplished landscape (acrylic) and plein air (oil) artists, exhibitors at the Big Sky Artists’ Studio & Gallery and members of the Big Sky Artists Collective.
Each student will receive a copy of “Limited Palette, Unlimited Color” to keep and take home to continue your limited palette journey. We will show you how to use the color wheel and mix your own clean mixtures to successfully create a mood for your paintings.
Each day, we will create a different limited palette color chart and paint a version of a simple landscape using John’s directives. You will then be able to go home and paint more schemes using the book for guidance.
Workshop is open to painters (oil or acrylic) of any level although students must have some basic knowledge of the medium he or she uses. Students will be provided the book ($92 value), color wheel, value scale and canvas papers to complete the daily exercises.
