U.S. Rep. Ryan Zinke will not seek reelection in November, he announced in a March 2 press release. Zinke has spent more than 30 years in public service, including 23 years as a U.S. Navy SEAL officer, four years in the Montana State Senate and as U.S. Secretary of the Interior under President Donald Trump. He has also served four nonconsecutive terms in the U.S. House of Representatives.
In the news release, Rep. Zinke said his decision was due in part to ongoing health considerations. He stated that he has undergone multiple surgeries since returning to Congress and anticipates additional procedures following the conclusion of his term. He will complete the remainder of his current term.
During his time in office, Rep. Zinke cited work related to infrastructure funding, conservation initiatives, public lands policy and assistance to constituents navigating federal agencies.
“It has been a great privilege to serve Montana and our great Nation as the first U.S. Navy SEAL to serve in the state senate and the U.S. House of Representatives, and the first Montanan to serve as a cabinet secretary,” Zinke stated. “May God bless Montana and all those who defend her.”
