BIG SKY – Come fall, Big Sky grocery shoppers will have one more option.
Construction of Roxy’s Market, Big Sky’s first full-scale grocery store, has come to a close, and owners Mike and Roxy Lawler are now completing interior work as they prepare for a fall opening.
“We’re hoping to open at the end of October, but there is some flexibility with that,” Roxy said. “As we get closer, we’ll know better.”
Roxy says they will hire between 25-30 to open the store, but that number will most likely change as things play out.
The Lawlers opened their first Roxy’s in Aspen, Colo., in 2009. After researching grocery prices in Gallatin County supermarkets, the couple is confident they will be a competitive option, and they hope to provide an essential service for the community – especially year-round residents.
Construction began on the 17,000-square-foot building on Nov. 28, 2013, at the intersection of Huntley Drive and Lone Mountain Trail, and Roxy says progress is on track.
“We’re just chugging along, cooking with gas,” Roxy said. “We still have a lot of work to do, but everything’s going according to plan.”
There has been one major change to the original plans for the market. Initial blueprints included space for a pharmacy, as requested by Bozeman Deaconess Hospital. However, since the hospital broke ground on its own building next door, the space has been absorbed as a part of Roxy’s sales floor.
