Ryan Busse, a former firearms industry executive and the 2024 Democratic nominee for governor of Montana, announced his candidacy for the U.S. House of Representatives in Montana’s First Congressional District. Busse is seeking to challenge incumbent Rep. Ryan Zinke.
Busse grew up on a family ranch and farm in rural Montana and has lived in the Flathead Valley for more than 30 years with his wife and two sons. He spent more than 25 years working at Kimber Firearms and later served in leadership roles with national conservation organizations. Since leaving the industry, Busse has been outspoken about responsibility and gun ownership, outlined in his book, Gunfight.
In his announcement, Busse said his campaign will focus on lowering costs for families, addressing health care affordability, protecting public lands, supporting tribal and rural communities and reducing corruption in Washington D.C.
“Montana is my home,” Busse said in a Jan. 8 press release. “It’s made me who I am. I owe it to this state to fight like hell to make it livable for everyday people again.”
Busse plans to travel throughout Montana’s First Congressional District in the coming months to meet with voters and discuss his policy priorities.
