Snowmobiler transported by helicopter after crash near West Yellowstone

On Tuesday, Jan. 2, a snowmobiler struck a tree on the Madison Arm Trail northwest of West Yellowstone and suffered severe facial injuries.  

West Yellowstone Police Department received a call at 2:45 p.m. Responding parties included police and area volunteers from Gallatin County Search and Rescue, Hebgen Basin Rural Fire Department and Yellowstone National Park. Rescuers arrived and assessed the victim’s condition, calling for a helicopter from Air Methods, according to a Jan. 3 press release from Gallatin County.

The injured snowmobiler was transported to a HBFD ambulance and transferred to the helicopter, which brought the patient to the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center, a Time Sensitive Emergency Level II Trauma Center. 

In the news release, Sheriff Dan Springer thanked the “dedicated SAR volunteers” and partner agencies involved in the rescue.
