On Monday, March 2, Big Sky Resort will host one of its finest annual events: the Special Olympics Montana Big Sky Area Winter Games.
The 17th annual event will take place at the resort’s Madison Base Area. A press release from SOMT thanked Big Sky Resort for graciously hosting the event year after year, and announced events will include giant slalom, snowshoe and Nordic skiing. Bozeman radio and television host, DJ and auctioneer Missy O’Malley will again emcee the event—the release noted she is “beloved by all the athletes.”
“The energy at the Big Sky Winter Games is contagious,” stated Sean Fitzgerald, volunteer winter games coordinator. “These games prove that when we come together, we can create unforgettable experiences for every athlete.”
Fitzgerald added that his favorite part of the event is the smiles worn by athletes and volunteers.
“[W]hen you see these competitors coming through the race gates having the best day of their lives, especially at the award ceremonies, it is just electric,” Fitzgerald stated.
“We are incredibly proud to host the Special Olympics of Montana for the 17th consecutive year, bringing together dozens of competitors and volunteers who fill our mountain with determination and joy,” said Tom Marshall, general manager of mountain experience at Big Sky Resort. “Through our work with Eagle Mount and Special Olympics Montana, we’re committed to making world-class snow sports accessible to everybody.”
The public is encouraged to attend the event, and SOMT will soon release a volunteer sign-up webpage to provide opportunities for willing helpers. More information is available online.
