U.S. Forest Service officials say three new fires have started in the Gallatin National Forest in southwestern Montana.
The agency says aircraft and ground crews are fighting the fires that Saturday morning were each less than an acre in size but could cause problems because of the dry conditions.
The Cottonwood Fire is burning west of U.S. Highway 89 along Cottonwood Creek, the Dead Deer Fire in the Elk Creek Drainage, and the Mile Creek Fire west of Hebgen Lake. Ariel firefighting and ground resources are on scene working each fire.
Elsewhere, officials say the 5-square-mile Skibstad Fire south of Columbus is 60 percent contained and is being fought by 232 firefighters with the help of two helicopters.
In western Montana, the 3-square-mile Chandral Creek Fire south of Darby along the Idaho border is about 60 percent contained.
