U.S. Forest Service to lead snowshoe hike, discuss 1959 earthquake

EBS STAFF

Though snow is scant in the Gallatin Valley, West Yellowstone is still enjoying winter conditions that enable outdoors exploring. On Sunday, Feb. 15, the U.S. Forest Service is holding a beginner-friendly guided snowshoe hike along Refuge Point Trail in West Yellowstone.

Snowshoers will meet at the Hebgen Lake Ranger District at 1 p.m. and then caravan 23 miles to the trailhead for the 1.5 mile trek. Along the way, a guide will discuss the devastating 1959 Hebgen Lake earthquake that formed Quake Lake and took 28 lives. The event is kid-friendly and well-behaved dogs are welcome to join.
