“Understanding the System”- A Community Leadership Seminar presented by Hopa Mountain

Hopa Mountain is offering the community leadership seminar, “Understanding the System” on Wednesday May 18, 2-4 pm at the Bozeman Public Library. Led by Josh Meyer, coordinator for Hopa Mountain’s Youth Leaders in Service Program, the seminar is free and open to the public.

This seminar will be an experiential and academic exploration into the systemic nature of groups. As an educator, how is it, that with identical material, a presentation can vacillate between a remarkable success and a monumental failure? If we as individuals possess the same amount of expertise and training, why aren’t our presentations always received the same way? Along a similar track but in a different vein, how is school pride akin to the partisanship that has created such extreme rifts in our state and national legislatures? The answer to these questions lies in an understanding of groups as complex organizational systems; understanding what they are, how they function, and how they change gives us a mechanism to begin considering how to impart change.

Meyer is an experiential educator with diverse training in psychology, education, neuroscience, and adaptive leadership. He specializes in using experiential education as a pedagogical tool to create lasting change in the groups with whom he works.
