September 28, 2011

The Gallatin City-County Health Department will host walk-in flu clinics to be held at two locations on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011. One flu clinic will be at The Belgrade Special Events Center, located on Grogan Street in Belgrade from 7 to 9:30 a.m. and 3:30 to 6 p.m. The other walk-in location will be at the Bozeman Senior Center, located at 807 North Tracy in Bozeman, from 8 to 11 a.m.

The Medical Clinic of Big Sky, in the Meadow Village, also offers walk in services for flu shots, flu mist and other vaccines. The meadow clinic is open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) recommends that everyone over the age of six months get an influenza vaccine, which comes in both shot and mist form. And remember, getting a flu shot doesn’t just benefit those who are getting the vaccine. Immunizations benefit the entire community, by reducing transmission of the disease and protecting neighbors, family and friends who are at risk of the effects of influenza. People at increased risk include newborn infants with immature immune systems; children and adults with cancer, heart and lung diseases, or kidney disorders; elderly men and women; and pregnant women. All of these groups benefit when our community unites against influenza, a respiratory illness that each year contributes to the deaths of thousands of Americans.
