October Yellowstone visits up 75% from 2019, 26% from 2022

Yellowstone National Park saw 75% more visitors this past October than in October 2019. A news release from the park noted that short-term, weather-related road closures may have impacted October visitation in 2019. 

The most-visited year for Yellowstone was 2021.

Still, the park had 26% more visitors than October 2022, leaving this year with the second highest visitation numbers in the past five years. Through October, 4,446,509 visitors came to Yellowstone in 2023, up 37% from last year and 12% from 2019. 

The release provided visitation statistics through October, including notes on closures that may have impacted numbers. 

2023 – 4,446,509

2022 – 3,241,761 (The park was closed for flooding June 13 through June 21. Three entrances opened on June 22.)

2021 – 4,789,349

2020 – 3,753,531 (The park was closed March 24 through May 17. Two entrances opened on May 18 and the remaining three opened on June 1.)

2019 – 3,979,154

2018 – 4,078,771
