Adopt a Yellowstone Bison from the Yellowstone Park Foundation

By Christine Weinheimer

No trip to Yellowstone is complete without seeing a herd of bison. In fact, it’s rare not to see a group of these incredible creatures—the largest land mammal in North America. Now you can have your very own bison, while supporting wildlife conservation, by adopting one from the Yellowstone Park Foundation.

Did you know that Yellowstone National Park is the only place in the lower 48 states to have a continuously free-ranging bison population since prehistoric times? The Yellowstone Park Foundation, the official fundraising partner of Yellowstone National Park, wants to ensure that the park’s bison and other native species are preserved forever.

Each symbolic adoption will help the Yellowstone Park Foundation fund critical wildlife research programs, like the study of brucellosis and other wildlife diseases, the use of collars to monitor wolf packs, and a current investigation into why Yellowstone’s trumpeter swan population has severely declined.

The nonprofit foundation has been Yellowstone National Park’s official fundraising partner organization since 1996. YPF works in cooperation with the park to fund projects like trail restoration, wildlife conservation, historic preservation and educational programs. The foundation receives no annual government funding; it relies instead upon contributions from private citizens, foundations and corporations to help ensure that Yellowstone’s great gifts to the world will never diminish. ypf.org/adopt
