Five Lone Peak High School tennis players will compete in the Class B-C state tournament this week after strong performances in the Class B divisional tournament in Butte on May 14-15.
Sophomore Catherine Coltea earned third place in singles, which will take her to states for the second year in a row. Last year, she competed in doubles “with great success,” head coach Libby Grabow told EBS in an email. Grabow highlighted the young player’s consistency on the court and strong hits.

Two pairs will also play in the state competition. Seniors Addy Malinowski and Libby Coltea placed second in Butte, which Grabow credits to their great placement experience and communication. Junior Poppy Towle and freshman Rowan Mitchell placed fifth, taking the younger duo to states for the first time. Freshman Zoë Luchini won her first match in divisionals, but did not qualify for states.
The five Big Horns will travel to Missoula on Thursday to make their mark in the state tournament, which features a double elimination format to put players’ skills to the test. The three day tournament will conclude in a finals match on Saturday, May 24.
