Bozeman Film Society starts new season

By Cynthia Logan Bozeman Film Society

BOZEMAN – The Bozeman Film Society kicked off its new season of top-rated independent films on Sept. 18, with the late Phillip Seymour-Hoffman’s final starring role in “A Most Wanted Man” in the Emerson’s Crawford Theater.

The second screening of the season is Sept. 25 at 7:30 p.m., with the quirky, engaging “Frank,” starring Michael Fassbender, Domhnall Gleeson, Scoot McNairy and Maggie Gyllenhaal. The story of an eccentric musician who wears an enormous papier-mâché head, “‘Frank’ offers a wry sense of humor, the ring of authenticity and glimmers of genuine wisdom,” according to Newsday critic Rafer Guzman.

Directed by Lenny Abrahamson and co-written by Peter Straughan and Jon Ronson, the film is inspired by Ronson’s stint playing music with Frank Sidebottom – aka the late Chris Sievey – who performed wearing a papier-mâché head.

“Frank” is required viewing for indie-rock fans with its insightful story about art, genius, idolatry and the sinister allure of fame. The film has an R rating and runs 95 minutes.

Mark your calendar for a special Monday night screening on Oct. 13, when the Bozeman Film Society presents “The Congress.” Robin Wright portrays herself as an aging actress who decides to take her final job: Preserving her digital likeness for a future Hollywood. Twenty years later, under the creative vision of the studio’s head animator, Wright’s digital double rises to immortal stardom.

Ticket sales for “Frank” and a no-host social hour with The Zebra Cocktail Lounge begin in the lobby at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are also available at Cactus Records starting Tuesday, Sept. 16. Visit for more information.
