Bozeman Health announced a “legacy gift” to Bridger Ski Foundation to support the nonprofit’s Building the Base campaign. The $3 million campaign is raising money for projects including the construction of the organization’s first dedicated community headquarters in Bozeman.
BSF and Bozeman Health have partnered for more than 15 years around outdoor recreation and land stewardship near Bozeman Health’s Deaconess Regional Medical Center, according to a BSF press release. In 2010, Bozeman Health worked with BSF, Gallatin Valley Land Trust and the City of Bozeman to establish public winter recreation access at Highland Glen, a 140-acre open space that is now part of the area’s Main Street to the Mountains trail network. Both of these amenities are heavily used by skiers and hikers to this day.
Now, BSF has a “scrappy plan” to construct a headquarters called “The Base” along Gold Avenue in Bozeman’s northeast neighborhood.
“We can’t wait to have this building full of kids,” BSF Executive Director Evan Weiss stated in the release. “Many of whom will be the next generation of trail stewards.”
The Base would act as a center for ski sports training, mental health and support for the BSF community, a place for athletes to complete homework and mingle with peers, and overall, a safe space for athletes to hone their skills learned in BSF programs. BSF has raised $1.9M of their $3M goal.
