On Sunday morning, Nov. 2, Bozeman Health and Gallatin County public safety officials will coordinate an emergency preparedness exercise in Big Sky and Bozeman, simulating a mass-casualty incident.
Citizens may notice alarming activities including emergency personnel, increased emergency vehicle traffic, and hospital staff participating in response activities near the Bozeman Health Big Sky Medical Center and Bozeman Health Deaconess Regional Medical Center—mock patients with simulated injuries will be transported by ambulance or walk into facilities, according to a Bozeman Health press release. Normal hospital operations will not be affected, nor will other emergency services.
In addition, the public can expect staged activities with increased emergency vehicle traffic near Big Sky Community Park and Bozeman Fire Station 2, near Bobcat Stadium.
“This exercise reflects Bozeman Health’s ongoing commitment to community safety and delivering high-quality emergency care,” Kiera Pattison, Bozeman Health chief nursing officer, stated in the release. “By partnering with our local public safety agencies, we strengthen our collaboration and enhance our ability to respond during a real large-scale emergency. Regular training with fire, emergency medical services, and law enforcement ensures we’re prepared for a real crisis. We train with the hope that we’ll never need to use these skills, but we’re ready if we do.”
Activities are scheduled to take place from approximately 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.
