On the evening of Jan. 16, hundreds of public school administrators and trustees received a threatening email from the same sender. Bozeman Public School District’s Superintendent Casey Bertram addressed the situation last night in a press release.
Bertram stated that some BSD7 administrators and trustees received the email, which was “an email bomb threat stating that bombs have been placed in schools.” The message was sent in batches to districts across the state and did not specify a school district.
According to the release, law enforcement and agencies investigated the threat as soon as possible on the evening of Jan. 16. Bozeman Police Department patrol officers and school resource officers walked through all buildings shortly after bomb threats were received.
“At this time, we have been advised that it doesn’t appear to be a credible threat, but rather a hoax to cause disruption and concern across law enforcement and school systems in Montana,” the release stated.
Bozeman schools are in session today. “We take all threats seriously and we are incredibly grateful for our School Resource Officer (SRO) program and positive working relationship with local law enforcement agencies,” the release stated.
An update on Jan. 17 thanked the Bozeman Police Department patrol officers. Students, staff and parents may notice an increase in law enforcement presence at schools as partners work to monitor the situation.
