Bozeman, MT- More than 60 Native community leaders and guest speakers recently came from Montana, Wyoming, S. Dakota, Oregon, Washington, Kentucky, Arizona, Idaho, Minnesota, Wisconsin and California to participate in the 2012 Strengthening the Circle Native Nonprofit Leadership Program held in Bozeman, Montana. This annual conference begins an eight month training program which is designed to give Executive Directors and Board members the tools, skills, and technical support to successfully develop and strengthen nonprofit organizations working with youth in Indian Country.

Hopa Mountain, a nonprofit organization based in Montana, cooperatively offers Strengthening the Circle, with Seventh Generation Fund, the Indian Nonprofit Alliance, Artemisia Associates and WolfStar Productions. Now in its sixth year, Strengthening the Circle aims to strengthen the capacities of experienced and emerging non-profit organizations that respond to the needs of American Indian families, especially those organizations serving youth on Indian reservations. This program offers “an important opportunity to support citizen leaders that are cultivating civic engagement and positive youth development in tribal communities,” said Bonnie Sachatello-Sawyer, executive director of Hopa Mountain. The program offers a four day workshop for executive directors and Board members with follow up support between sessions.

Hopa Mountain is a Bozeman-based non-profit organization that supports rural and tribal community leaders, adults and youth, in their efforts to improve education, ecological health, and economic development. Citizen leadership training programs are offered throughout the year by Hopa Mountain.
