BIG SKY – Start off on the right piste this ski season at Big Sky Resort with its Women’s Early Bird Clinic and the Dan Egan Early Bird Camp.
The all-women early season clinic on Dec. 5 and 6 is taught by women and the session will focus on improving individual performance and mastering new techniques. This clinic is a building block to advancing women’s skiing from the start of the season, allowing them to gain confidence on snow as the season progresses.
“The idea of this clinic is to personalize a group lesson, provide key tips to improve your skiing throughout the season, and have fun meeting new friends who like to ski what you like to ski,” said Dashelle Purchell, Women Clinics instructor at Big Sky Resort.
Dan Egan is one of the “Top Skiers of All Time,” according to Powder magazine, and his Early Bird Camp on Dec. 14 and 15 is designed for skiers who want to learn and adapt their skills for all-terrain skiing. The camp will explore skiers’ range of balance and stance on varied terrain including groomed runs, bumps, steeps and trees.
Dan Egan’s Early Bird Camp includes two days of guiding and individualized instruction by Egan and his team of trainers, as well as video movement analysis.
“Come ski with me and learn secrets to all-terrain skiing,” Egan said. “We’ll cover the strategy and tactics for where we go and why, changing the way you’ll see the mountain. The only thing extreme is the level of fun.”
The Early Bird Camp and Women’s Early Bird Clinic are designed for intermediate and above skiers who are motivated to take their abilities to a new level. The clinics are capped at six participants per group.

We all are familiar with using a limited palette, but do you use one? Do you know how to use a limited palette to create different color combinations? Are you tired of carrying around 15-20 different tubes when you paint plein air? Have you ever wanted to create a certain “mood” in a painting but failed? Do you create a lot of mud? Do you struggle to achieve color harmony? All these problems are addressed in John’s workbook in clear and concise language!
Based on the bestselling “Limited Palatte, Unlimited Color” workbook written by John Pototschnik, the workshop is run by Maggie Shane and Annie McCoy, accomplished landscape (acrylic) and plein air (oil) artists, exhibitors at the Big Sky Artists’ Studio & Gallery and members of the Big Sky Artists Collective.
Each student will receive a copy of “Limited Palette, Unlimited Color” to keep and take home to continue your limited palette journey. We will show you how to use the color wheel and mix your own clean mixtures to successfully create a mood for your paintings.
Each day, we will create a different limited palette color chart and paint a version of a simple landscape using John’s directives. You will then be able to go home and paint more schemes using the book for guidance.
Workshop is open to painters (oil or acrylic) of any level although students must have some basic knowledge of the medium he or she uses. Students will be provided the book ($92 value), color wheel, value scale and canvas papers to complete the daily exercises.
