The team behind the recent expansion of West Yellowstone Airport has earned statewide recognition for its work on the project.
Encore Electric received a 2025 Construction Excellence Award from the Montana Contractors Association in the Best Specialty Contractor Project category. The award honors the company’s electrical work on the airport’s terminal expansion, which was completed in May 2025.
The project modernized the all-wood terminal with updated electrical, data, security and lighting systems while preserving its rustic design, according to a press release from Encore. Work included installing energy-efficient infrastructure and restoring the airport’s historic 1930s aviation beacon as the focus point of the terminal. Encore also partnered with Martel Construction and the Montana Department of Transportation on the project to ensure compliance with federal aviation requirements.
“Building an FAA facility in such a remote location required precision, persistence, and collaboration,” stated Bill Frye, director of the Montana Business Unit for Encore Electric, in the release. “This award reflects the dedication of our electricians and project leaders who delivered exceptional quality under demanding conditions while never compromising safety, craftsmanship or the project vision.”
The award was presented Jan. 22 during the association’s annual convention recognizing top construction projects across Montana.
