On Aug. 17, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office issued evacuation warnings to residents south of Ennis due to a wildfire start. Evacuation zones included the Dry Creek Trail, Deerfoot Trail, Bobcat Trail and Pine Cone areas of the Shining Mountains. As of noon Aug. 18, the warning had been lifted for all areas after firefighters contained the blaze.
Madison Valley Rural Fire Department responded to the reported wildfire at Dry Creek Trail Aug. 17. When they arrived, they began suppression efforts, protected nearby residences and called for assistance from county entities, Madison Valley EMS, Virginia City Fire Department, Harrison Fire Department, Big Sky Fire Department, U.S. Forest Service and the Department of Natural Resource Conservation.
“Firefighters worked throughout the evening to contain the fire, establish access, protect nearby properties, and extinguish remaining hot spots,” an Aug.18 MVRFD Facebook post stated. “Several residences in the area were evacuated as a precaution while crews worked to bring the fire under control.”
No injuries were reported and after crews remained in the area into the night, the fire was successfully contained. About 12.5 acres burned.
“MVRFD would like to thank all of the agencies, firefighters, first responders, landowners, and community members who assisted during the incident. The cooperation between everyone involved played an important role in bringing the fire under control safely,” the post stated.
