Just before midnight on Tuesday, June 17, the Big Sky Fire Department and its mutual aid partners responded to a residential chimney fire on Browtine Road in Big Sky.
According to a BSFD press release, the fire was “quickly contained” thanks to a fast call from residents and “rapid response” and coordinated teamwork from emergency personnel. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
“Upon arrival, the initial crews quickly determined that the chimney fire had extended into the structure,” the release explained. “They then established a water supply, made entry into the residence, and executed an aggressive interior attack on the fire.”
Firefighters contained the fire to the master bedroom wing on the first floor and prevented further structural damage.
BSFD credited the Yellowstone Club Fire Department for its mutual aid support, stating they played a “critical” role by integrating into BSFD’s initial attack teams on interior and exterior suppression efforts.
“Additional mutual aid crews from the Gallatin Valley made significant contributions to preserving property and reinforcing firefighting efforts,” the release stated, crediting Gallatin Gateway, Bozeman and Hyalite fire departments, and the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office and dispatch for “swift and professional assistance.”
