BIG SKY – In Acting Shakespeare, featuring James DeVita, will be performed May 3 from 7-9 p.m. at the Warren Miller Performing Arts Center.

The performance tells the story of DeVita’s personal journey towards meeting Shakespeare and discovering the beauty of words and their potential – a story that began one night 25 years ago when he watched Sir Ian MicKellen in the one man show, In Acting Shakespeare.

Although some of McKellen’s structure and writings remain the same, DeVita has substituted McKellen’s personal experiences in the play with his own, providing his audiences an intimate look into the conversational side of William Shakespeare.

An award-winning author and playwright, DeVita has been an accomplished actor in the American Theater for over 25 years. Currently, he is the resident playwright for First Stage Children’s Theater in Milwaukee and has written or adapted 19 plays for children and young adults.

This summer also marks DeVita’s 19th season acting for the American Players Theater, which originally produced In Acting Shakespeare. Located just outside Spring Green, Wis., it is the country’s second largest outdoor theater devoted to the classics.
