On Saturday, Aug. 30 after 6 p.m., Gallatin County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Search and Rescue volunteers from GCSSAR’s Big Sky section responded to a report of an injured hiker near the top of Beehive Basin Trail in Big Sky. The hiker had injured their ankle and was unable to walk back to the trailhead.

GCSSAR deployed a team of four volunteers from the intersection of Upper Beehive Loop Road and North Fork Trail and located the hiker, transporting them back to the trailhead. From the parking lot, a family member helped get the hiker home.

In a Gallatin County press release, Sheriff Dan Springer recommended hikers travel with a friend or family member if possible and always carry warm clothing and plenty of food and water.

“Accidents can happen,” the release stated. “Having someone there to help you goes a long way in getting help quickly.”
