Residents of Gallatin Gateway are familiar with the population of elk that frequently cross U.S. Highway 191, and the unfortunate casualties that come with a growing population around them. Local residents, or those interested in wildlife movement in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, are invited to learn more about statistics and characteristics of the Gallatin Gateway elk herd at a June 30 presentation.
Titled “Living With Wildlife: Movements of the Gallatin Gateway elk herd,” the presentation will be held at the Gallatin Gateway Community Center on June 30 at 6:30 p.m.
“This presentation highlights the collaboration between Montana FWP, nonprofits and local community members on the wildlife movements of the elk population in the vicinity of Gallatin Gateway for the past three years,” stated April Craighead, executive director of the Craighead Institute, and one of the event’s organizers. “It will also touch on other issues of living with wildlife in our community.”
Featuring guest speakers Julie Cunningham and Noah Starling of Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks, the night will include data and information about the local Gallatin Gateway elk herd and other wildlife in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem.
The Gallatin Gateway Community Center is located at 145 Mill St. The event is expected to run until 9 p.m.
