A Montana State University scientist who studies the big questions of the universe is part of an upcoming episode of “Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman.”

Neil Cornish – shown on horseback in snowy Montana – illustrates the concepts of finite and infinite universes. He also discusses such things as the size and shape of the universe and whether or not the universe is finite. Another scientist in the hour-long episode hits colored balls on a golf course to demonstrate the Big Bang theory. Other astrophysicists use bagels and soap bubbles to illustrate the shape of the universe and changes within.

“Edge of the Universe” — the second episode in the second season of the wormhole series — is scheduled to air at 10 p.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday, June 15, on the Science Channel. Check TV listings for local times.

Cornish said he was asked to participate in the show because in 2004, he and three colleagues used satellite images of the afterglow of the Big Bang to search for signs that the universe is finite and to place a lower bound on the size of the universe. Cornish was filmed for the show in December.

“Through the Wormhole with Morgan Freeman” uses the latest science to answer mysteries that have fascinated mankind, according to the show’s website.
