Popular ‘Beaten Path’ bridge repair underway in Beartooth range

EBS STAFF

Crews from the Beartooth Ranger District of the Custer Gallatin National Forest will be repairing Rimrock Bridge near East Rosebud Trail No. 15 in the Beartooth Mountains starting Oct. 3. They ask hikers to avoid the area while construction crews work.

Rimrock Bridge is a part of the popular Beaten Path trail, and was destroyed by the 2022 floods. The forest service calls the project “essential for restoring access” to the area frequented by hikers, runners and backpackers. The body of a missing hiker who had recently drowned after attempting to cross East Rosebud Creek was retrieved Sept. 24.

Construction will take place approximately seven miles up East Rosebud Trail, and during that time crews will be staging materials, blasting and using aviation resources. Project completion is dependent on weather.

“We appreciate your patience and cooperation during this important recovery project,” the national forest stated in a social media update. “Stay safe and plan ahead for possible delays!”
