BIG SKY – Add remote-control car racing to the list of outdoor recreation activities for the whole family.
Rudy Noorlander, owner of the winter snowmobile outfit, Alpine Adventures, recently opened a remote-control car track in Big Sky next to the Exxon gas station on Highway 191.
Noorlander, who has worked in Big Sky for more than 20 years and has run a snowmobile rental operation here for eight seasons, said he wanted to bring another niche to Big Sky for tourist and locals to enjoy.
Currently, he has four remote control cars and a track for racing. The cars can be rented for $1 a minute, with the first lap free in order to test the course. Full day rentals include an extra battery pack and a quick charger.
With time and pending interest, Noorlander hopes to expand and improve the track to incorporate a lap counter and timer. Also, since the cars are waterproof and virtually indestructible, he plans to build a winter track to continue the racing year round.
