BIG SKY – Early season weather predictions are calling for huge snows this winter. To be ready for a Big Sky winter, you’ll want to do three things: Pre-order your powder skis, adjust your schedule to work evenings, and sign up for Jolene Callahan’s fifth season of ski conditioning classes.

“A lot of my clients add these classes to their regular schedule of exercise,” Callahan said. “But for a bunch of others, these are the only exercise classes they take all year.”

Old-timers and newcomers alike will be impressed by the additions Callahan will offer to this year’s classes, which began Sept. 29. She has seven conditioning classes a week – offered every day but Wednesday – and two classes on Friday.

The Friday classes are great for families, Callahan said, with a morning class including free childcare, and an afternoon class for kids 10 and older.

Held in her new studio in the Meadow Village Center, Callahan’s classes focus on readying the body for every slope and snow condition. Exercises are specifically designed to help participants develop the strength they need for turns, the balance required for unstable conditions, and the cardiovascular fitness that’s essential for lapping chairlifts on a powder day.

“These classes are great for all levels of fitness and skiing ability,” Callahan said. “In one hour, you can expect … strength, jumping, balance and single leg stability exercises that will dramatically improve your skiing performance and experience.”

Classes are offered until Dec. 21 and can be purchased on a daily or monthly basis. Visit bigskyfitnessfusion.com for a class schedule and more information.
