Update as of Aug. 8 at 8 a.m.: According to an update from CGNF, aided by evening rain showers, crews have the Swan Fire 100% contained.
A spot fire, currently contained to a single tree, is smoldering on Swan Creek Road in Gallatin Canyon between Big Sky and Bozeman. The fire was identified on Wednesday, Aug. 6, is one-tenth of an acre and 0% contained, and is being carefully monitored by Custer Gallatin National Forest fire crews.

There is one helicopter on scene and other sources are responding, according to the CGNF Facebook update. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
CGNF crews, including those in the Absaroka Beartooth region, were busy this week, responding to three different fires on Aug. 2: the Deep Creek Fire 12 miles south of Livingston, the North Dry Creek Fire 12 miles southwest of Livingston and the Gold Meyer Fire 10 miles southwest of Livingston. All were less than one-tenth of an acre in size and caused by lightning. Precipitation aided efforts to quickly extinguish the fires.
“The Custer Gallatin National Forest appreciates the concerted efforts of the community from public reports to mutual aid responses,” CGNF stated in a social media post.
