January: Tolerance and Acceptance

BIG SKY – As part of its Student of the Month/Terrific Kids of the Month program, the Big Sky School District honored four students in October for their ability to show respect to classmates and teachers.

Teachers choose two “terrific kids” from kindergarten through fifth grades and two “students of the month” in middle and high school, recognizing them based on a different theme every month.
An announcement is made over the intercom, and the students are called into the office to be congratulated. In addition, the k-5 honorees are rewarded with a burger from The Corral, and the chosen middle and high school students get pizza from Blue Moon Bakery.

Thank you Marlee, for setting the bar so high when it comes to the treatment of our fellow human beings.

Logan always offers encouragement to her peers, works well with everyone regardless of differences, and is always willing to help a struggling friend in need. Logan accepts that not all students are the same, and rather embraces it as an opportunity to learn differently with others. Thank you Logan for being such a strong role model for us all, and someone from which we can truly learn the meaning of being a humanitarian.

Ophir Middle School Student of the Month – Sixth grader Nolan Schumacher

Nolan SchumacherNolan_Schumacher has achieved this goal as the middle school’s choice for a student best demonstrating tolerance. Helen Keller wrote, “The highest result of education is tolerance.” Always accepting of his classmates’ differences, easy-going Nolan shows tolerance daily. He is a fair, kind, and optimistic student. What a great model for his middle school peers!
