Yellowstone Forever will host Voices of Yellowstone: First Peoples Celebration Aug. 2-8 in Gardiner, honoring Indigenous cultures connected to Yellowstone through cultural tours, art, music, storytelling and nightly teepee illuminations at the park’s North Entrance. The centerpiece is a series of five limited-capacity, full-day tours inside the park from Aug. 3-7, each capped at 12 participants for $99 and led by Indigenous educators including Mike Jetty, Chris La Tray and Ryan Littleeagle.
“Voices of Yellowstone creates space for Tribal artists, educators and cultural leaders to share their own stories and perspectives,” said Amanda Hagerty, Yellowstone Forever’s chief program officer in a press release from the organization.
The week opens Aug. 2 with a Native Art Market, an opening ceremony at Arch Park and the first teepee lighting, and continues with a Gardiner-Mammoth community potluck and the Pretty Shield Foundation and Rocky Mountain Tribal Leaders Council’s nightly Legacy of Light illumination. The event is hosted in partnership with Yellowstone National Park, the Pretty Shield Foundation, Rocky Mountain Tribal Leaders Council and the Gardiner Chamber of Commerce and Visitor Center.
