On Tuesday, April 28, the City of Bozeman will host a public meeting to hear community thoughts on the future of the city’s urban forest management, as it prepares to update its Urban Forest Management Plan.
The meeting will be held virtually from noon to 1 p.m., with registration available online.
The city’s existing UFMP was compiled in 2016, and the 2026 update seeks to ensure sustainable, holistic and efficient management of the city’s urban forest, according to a press release from the city. It will eventually be finalized by the Bozeman City Commission.
“Our urban forest is a key part of what makes Bozeman such a beautiful, healthy and safe place to live,” Mitch Overton, Bozeman Parks and Recreation director, stated in the release. “We are a community that cares about our trees, and we’re eager to hear more from our residents about their priorities as we update our plan.”
The plan will address infrastructure and management, planning and development, community engagement, insects and disease impacts, and disaster preparedness. More details for each category are listed online. After the April 28 meeting, the city will continue engaging with the community and allowing the public to review the draft UFMP before it is finalized.
