Hackett is the immediate past co-chair of the MTCCC, and has been a leader in the MTCCC since 2003.

“Cheryl both communicates the vision and mission of the MTCCC and has been a tremendous leader for this group over the past many years,” Whiting Sorrell said.

Hackett joins previous recipients Dr. Thomas Purcell in 2010, Betsy Smith in 2009, Sue Warren in 2008, Rita McDonald in 2007, and Dr. Barbara Lloyd in 2006.

Bette Bohlinger died of acute myeloid leukemia in 2006 and following her passing the MTCCC created the award to honor an exceptional individual or organization that encourages, inspires, and leads others within the group. “I congratulate Cheryl on her many achievements and am honored to be able to present her with this award,” Lt. Gov. Bohlinger said.

The MTCCC coalition, in partnership with DPHHS, was created in 2003 to educate Montana residents about cancer prevention. The group is comprised of dozens of organizations and over 180 state health advocates with the common mission to reduce the overall burden of cancer for Montanans. The Montana Comprehensive Cancer Control Plan 2011-2016 is a road map of activities that will overall decrease the burden of cancer in Montana.

The MTCCC will hold its annual statewide meeting Tuesday, May 10 at the Holiday Inn Downtown in Helena from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
