The Fort Ellis Volunteer Fire Department responded to two separate fires over the weekend east of Bozeman.

On Saturday, Feb. 7, crews were dispatched around 3:30 p.m. to a fast-moving wildland fire near the Jackson Creek exit at Laurel Ranch Road, north of I-90. Windy conditions contributed to the fire, which burned approximately 40 acres. One shed was lost, but firefighters contained the fire before it reached nearby homes. No injuries were reported, according to a Gallatin County press release.

On Sunday, Feb. 8 around 4:45 p.m., a Fort Ellis firefighter discovered a residential fire in the 1800 block of Fort Ellis Road. The two-story home was unoccupied at the time. Fort Ellis, Bozeman and Hyalite fire departments quickly brought the fire under control and while the home sustained heavy damage, no injuries occurred and the family cat was found safe.

“Fort Ellis wants to thank the following organizations for assistance throughout the weekend [including] Amsterdam Fire, AMR, Bozeman Fire, Bridger Canyon Fire, Gallatin County Sheriff’s Department, Gallatin County 911, Hyalite Fire and Montana Highway Patrol,” a Feb. 9 press release from the fire department stated.
