More than 30 accidents or slide-offs have been reported as of 11:15 a.m. on Thursday, according to a press release from the Gallatin County Sheriff’s Department.

After 11 a.m., both lanes of traffic were completely closed on Ousel Falls Road and South Fork Road (in the Spanish Peaks Club area) due to driving hazards and accidents.

At 12:05 p.m., Gallatin County Sheriff’s Sgt. Dan Haydon told EBS that South Fork and Ousel Falls roads will partially open soon, but travel is not recommended unless necessary.

“If travel is necessary, chains and snow tires are required,” according to a 12:04 p.m. update from Gallatin County announcing that both roads are temporarily reopened.

The original press release states that Montana Highway 64 (Lone Mountain Trail) is experiencing periodic closures as well due to hazardous driving conditions.

“Travel in the Big Sky area is not advised, please do not travel in this area if possible,” the release states. “Our office will continue to provide updates throughout the day.”
